The USB to TTL Serial Debug Cable provides a simple and reliable way to connect to the serial console of a Raspberry Pi, single-board computers, and other devices using 3.3V logic-level UART.

Inside the USB connector is a built-in USB-to-serial conversion chip, while the opposite end features four separated wires for easy connection:

  • Red: 5V power (up to 500mA from USB)

  • Black: Ground

  • White: RX (into the USB adapter)

  • Green: TX (out of the USB adapter)

The separated pin design makes this cable ideal for powering a Raspberry Pi and accessing its debug or login console at the same time. The RX and TX signals operate at 3.3V logic levels, making it compatible with most modern embedded systems.

This cable works out of the box on Linux systems and is supported on Windows and macOS with readily available drivers. It is also commonly used for accessing serial consoles on devices such as BeagleBone Black, WiFi routers, and other embedded hardware.
